BREATHER MODIFICATION

Many Bullets, whether English or Indian, suffer from "Wet Sumping". This is when oil drains through from either the oil compartment or the timing chest into the area within the crankcases where the crankshaft runs. This normally happens after the Bullet has been standing for a few days. This will result in some smoke and/or oil being pumped out of the existing breather pipe over the rear tyre or filling up the later style catch tank. It will normally clear up within a few miles, but the mess has already been made. Whilst we can not stop the engine from smoking, we can stop the oil from making a mess.
We have developed this superior breather modification which redirects the excess oil back into the oil tank and then allows the tank to breathe in the normal way. This is obtained by a simple but clever design of extension to the oil filler neck which also has the added benefit of making it easier to fill the oil tank from a gallon container.
This is simple to fit and is supplied with instructions. Currently there are 2 variations available:
90060 - Up to approx 2003 with push and turn oil filler cap.
90061 - Approx 2003-2004 with screw in oil filler cap and breather on left hand crankcase.
Note: We do not currently have a modification for models built after approx 2004 - without the breather on the left hand crankcase (below the cylinder barrel).

MAGNETIC DRAIN PLUGS

These drain plugs are suitable for engine or gearbox and will pick up any iron or steel particles that are suspended in the oil.
Note 1: Approximate dates have been listed but as there are some discrepancies in engines please check that the sizes given are also applicable to your bike.
Note 2: On pre-Dec 1999 models there are no separate, only filter plugs and we do not recommend replacing these with a maganetic plug.

OILER FILLER CAP AND DIPSTICK

We have re-manufactured the oil filler cap and dipstick as fitted to the Redditch Bullets in the 1950's. These are quality English made and chromed product and will fit straight on the pre 2003 models with the push and turn cap.

These thermometers replace the standard oil filter cap and dipstick. They are available for all models except the new EFI models (can also be fitted to engines that use our breather modification kit, although some small alterations may be needed).

PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

The Redditch Bullets had an internal crankcase drilling and a valve which allowed oil to bypass the cylinder head when the oil pressure reached approx 30psi. On the Indian models this pressure relief valve and drilling were never fitted with the exception of some of the very early Bullets in the 1960’s. This can put a lot of extra strain on the oil pump components especially when the engine is cold.
This kit re-introduces a pressure relief valve into the system using the same type of valve that was used on the Redditch models and returning the unwanted oil back to the oil tank via the timing cover. It has taken 2 years to develop and thoroughly test. It works well with the standard or high capacity pumps allowing you to maximise the oil flow yet keeping the pressure reasonable. The kit comprises of new CNC machined polished tappet cover with rubber gasket, return pipe, relief valve and adaptor and all the necessary gaskets and washers.

PUSHRODS

These polished pushrods are a direct replacement for the standard rods. Made in the UK. They also have the benefit of the earlier 1/4 inch stronger adjusters rather than the small 6mm type fitted to the latest Bullets. We have these in various lengths so if you are at the maximum of your adjustment on your existing pushrod we should be able to supply a more suitable length. These are the measurement of the overall length of the pushrod with the adjuster and locknut removed.
Part Numbers: 144526A & 144528A are standard for the Indian built 350cc Bullets.

These adjusters replace the original weak 6mm adjusters fitted from June 1999 on which are prone to failure. These are English made using a more suitable grade of material and hardening and also improved on the design giving improved strength. Not indestructible, but a large step towards it!

This is an all-alloy pushrod suitable for (ALL) Bullets. They offer a weight saving of nearly 50% over the standard rods. All-alloy pushrods have been available for decades but the specification on these rods is vastly improved to give better strength and durability. They are produced in the USA from 6064-T6 aluminium for the tube and the tops are 7075-T651 aluminium. VALVE LIFTER

TIMING COVER BADGE

OIL PUMP WORM AND SPINDLE

The rapid wear and failure of the standard oil pump spindles and worms can be put down to many reasons including alignment, quality, revving the engine with cold oil and kicking back. We have written a whole article on this subject which you can read on our web site in the technical notes section.
With these parts, we have tackled the quality issues by manufacturing a batch of high precision English made worms and spindles. (The new worm will require the replaceable cork seal).

3 WAY TIMING PINION

This timing pinion has 3 different key ways. Standard, advance and retarded. These 3 positions allow you to change the cam timing of your Bullet. Advancing the cam timing will give you low down torque for pulling power, whilst the retarded setting will push your peak power up the rev range giving you a better revving engine for more top end performance. For use on modified engines.

CAM SHAFTS

We have tested several different performance camshafts over the past few years. After having spent extensive time on both the dyno and road we have developed an excellent profile. These are NEW English made cams, not re-profiled or reconditioned.
Note 1: Fitting the 500cc cams will require a small modification to the crankcase to allow clearance for the extra lift.
Note 2: Suitable for all Indian made Bullets (including Bullet Sixty-5), 350cc (56-62) and 500cc Redditch built Bullets.

Note 1: A small modification to the crankcases is required to allow clearance for the extra lift of these cams.
Note 2: With the standard 500 Bullet engine, the compression ratio is too low to benefit from these cams. Please consider raising your compression before changing the cams and also fitting the improved valve springs shown on the cylinder head pages of this catalogue.

ADJUSTABLE CAM SPINDLES

The gears using the standard spindles can be very noisy. These Indian made products are designed to take up the back-lash on the cams caused by manufacturing tolerances.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the spindles we sell are not the standard Samrat items but have been specially supplied to higher tolerances exclusive for Hitchcocks. Additionally each spindle is finished in the UK to meet our stringent quality control. If purchasing these from your local dealer, you need to find out whether they have been obtained through Hitchcocks to ensure that they been subject to our quality checks and are not the standard Samrat items.

OIL FILTER PACKING PIECE

Another simple idea. This packing piece fits over the oil filter stud and sits inside the filter. It reduces the volume of oil needed in the filter chamber which allows the oil to reach the big end sooner, especially after an oil change. It can be used in conjunction with the oil fiter magnet and should be inserted before it.
