1950s Bullet

By clicking on the picture you can see the result of 2 days work of converting a totally standard Indian built Classic Bullet using various accessories from our stock which are all listed in our online accessory catalogue. The job was given to one of our "level headed" guys with a brief to come up with whatever he liked, with just one stipulation, to use unmodified, off the shelf parts. This is just an example of what can be done. You can create the look and style that you want and can use as many or as few parts as you wish. Below is a list of the parts we have used in this project.

This kit comprises of a set of English made Doherty levers, throttle, rubbers and a set of 4 English made cables. It replaces the modern controls giving a typical 1950s look.
For 5 speed models order part BARKIT2.

Note 1: This kit is supplied with a front brake brake light switch which is hidden from view in the casquette.

Note 2: For models made before June 1999 and fitted with Magura controls, you would be advised to fit the later type electrics cluster allowing an easier changeover to the above kit.

Note 3: Kit not suitable for disc brake models.

Note 4: The handlebar we use with the kit is Part No.: 34625 with classic Amal style handlebar grips Part No.: AM/16/071.

The pillion pad is a typical accessory of the 1940s and 50s . It will require drilling of the rear mudguard to allow the fixing of the 4 attachment bolts (supplied). A choice of Indian or English made.

Note: Not suitable for the Electra(X), Thunderbird or Electra EFI models.

This is an English made copy of the original 1950's style tappet cover. It is made in alloy and has a highly polished finish.
The wing nut is polished alloy.

Note: Suitable for Both Indian and Redditch built Bullets.

This is a remanufactured copy of the original yoke used on the 1950's Bullets, which is very popular with trials riders. We have had these cast and machined in the UK to allow them to bolt straight on to the modern Indian Bullet. It is supplied complete with handlebar clamp and fixings. It has a highly polished alloy finish and looks superb.

Note 1: We also have available an Indian made copy of this yoke. The quality of this item and the accuracy of manufacture is outside our normal standards. Whilst we would not use or endorse this item ourselves it does offer a cheaper alternative. It is supplied WITHOUT the handlebar clamp and fixings.

Note 2: Suitable for all Redditch (54-62) Bullets and Indian built models

Note 3: Why not fit a Smiths replica speedo to really set it off. This is the standard Indian speedo that has been modified to give the look of the Smiths Chronometric speedos fitted to the Bullets in the 1950's and 1960's. They are available calibrated in miles or kilometers per hour. It is a direct replacement for the original but does not have provision for the small warning lights.

Give your bullet the 50's look, this front saddle comes complete with the correct length main springs and our own design of fixing kit. Approximate dimensions 15” wide x 13” long. It bolts on as a direct replacement for the dual seat, assuming you have the top bracket on the frame (see frame illustration above).

A number of versions are available to fit the various Enfield models. If you require the seat without the fixing kit or for a Redditch built Bullet order Part TE/S877.

Note 1: Suitable for 350cc (49-55) and 500cc (53-55) Redditch Bullets. NOT suitable for Thunderbird or Clasic EFI model.

Note 2: Also available is the "LYCETT" badge that was originally fixed to the rear of the single saddle covers on the popular 50’s Lycett seats.

TThese English made headlight brackets are similar in design to the ones used on Bullets of the 1950’s but adapted to suit the modern Bullet fitted with the top yoke, Part No.: 92590 (see 'Accessory Catalogue > Kits > 1950s Bullet' for details). These can be supplied as a kit with the chrome top rings, rubber packers and lower bush or as just the brackets which you can adapt yourself. Finished in black.

This reproduction headlamp was originally fitted to the pre 1954 Bullets. We have fitted it to our 1950's Bullet (as shown in the Kits section of this online catalogue) and think that it helps change the whole appearance of the bike. It is supplied complete with bulbs, ammeter and light switch.

Note: Will require a small wiring change to the bulb holder.

This is a genuine Lucas ammeter as used in the 1960's It can be fitted as a replacement for the Indian item to give the classic look.

This is powder coated black, comes complete with 3 bright plated turned fixing posts (also available in stainless steel). Requires drilling of front mudguard to fix.

Transfer supplied separately and priced individually. You will need 2 (one for each side of the plate).

Note: White stick on numbers/letters are also available (not legal for bikes registered in the UK after 1973). These are priced individually and again you will need 2 of each.

These front mudguards are the standard guard fitted to the 350 Bullets. They are supplied complete with stays and fixings and bolt directly on to the 500 Bullet. They give you far better weather protection over the standard "skimpy" 500 mudguard.

Note: Suitable for 350cc (54-58) & 500cc (54-62) Redditch Bullets and Indian Bullets. NOT suitable for the Electra(X), Thunderbird (disc) and EFI models.

This 18 litre petrol tank gives far more capacity than the standard 14.5 litre tank. Available in various colours. Please note that this tank is made in India for the home market, so paintwork will not be up to the same standard as European export models. This tank uses screw in petrol tap Part No.: 141541.

Note 1: These tanks are only available with a locking petrol cap, NOT with a push and turn cap as shown in the photograph.

Note 2: Suitable for all Indian Bullets, 350cc & 500cc (53-58) Redditch Bullets. N0T suitable for Thunderbird or EFI models.

This is a pressed steel number plate as fitted to the mid-1950s Bullets, made in England and powder coated in black. Requires drilling of the rear mudguard and is fitted with a 1950s style tail lamp.

This is the early style air filter assembly and allows you to remove the original filter that is fitted in the right hand toolbox on late models, thus freeing up this toolbox for other purposes (it is not possible to modify your existing rectangular box due to the different way in which it draws air). This assembly comes complete with element and transfer and is powder coated in black or chromed.

Both these products are Indian made.

This is the battery carrier fitted to the early Bullets which some owners are fitting on the later models.

NOTE 1: This will require the replacement of the battery (approximate dimensions of battery required are: 120 x 90 x 160mm).

NOTE 2: We can also supply the empty "Exide" style black dummy battery case which can then be fitted with small 6v and 12v batteries as listed below. These small batteries are not suitable for electric start models.

NOTE 3: We are NOT allowed to send acid through the post so all batteries will need to be filled locally.

This system is a copy of the mid-1950's exhaust fitted to the Royal Enfields. In the kit is the exhaust pipe, silencer and heavy-duty silencer clip. All parts are made in England. It will give enhanced performance along with a 1950's sound. All parts can be sold individually, but this short silencer will not fit on to the standard pipe fitted to the newer Royal Enfields.

The silencer has a removable baffle which can be modified by the owner to give the desired compromise between noise and performance.

Note: This system is NOT suitable for Redditch built Bullets, Thunderbird or EFI models.

Why not add an alloy cooling ring to complete that 50's look (NOT suitable for Electra (X).
