Carburettors

From the introduction of the EFI bikes in 2009, we have been asked by customers if the bikes could be converted to use a carburettor, many felt that the EFI system was too complicated, would be too expensive to fix, and was restrictive to tune.

After much research and development we can now offer a carb conversion for all models in the EFI range. This kit comprises of a 32mm Amal MK1 Concentric carburettor and filter, ignition box, magneto flywheel and extractor, petrol tap and adaptor plate, spark plug and all necessary wiring, cables and gaskets etc. Extensive dyno testing has shown good increases in both torque and BHP to be amongst the benefits.

This kit allows the user to utilise many different exhausts, air filters and other tuning parts on the bike without being restricted by the limitations of the injection system.

This kit comprises of a 26mm Amal MK1 Concentric carburetter, throttle and choke cables, choke lever, S&B performance filter and all fixings. This will give improved performance over the standard carburetter and will also give you better cold start control with the multi-position choke. Jetted to suit.

Note 1: We can now also supply a 28mm version of this kit for use with tuned a cylinder head.

This kit comprises of a 30mm Amal MK1 Concentric carburetter, special CNC machined alloy manifold (without which, this carburetter cannot be fitted), throttle and choke cables, choke lever, S&B performance filter and all fixings. This will give improved performance over the standard carburetter and will also give you better cold start control with the multi-position choke. Jetted to suit.

MINDA CONTROLS - Fitted on Bullets after June 1999 (dog-legged lever). A similar Minda version is used before June 1999 on some Indian home market models).

After a lot of work on the road and dyno we have produced a performance kit which, can be fitted in stages and has been developed purely for the 500 Electra. The standard Electra develops just 17bhp at the rear wheel. The standard engine is designed to run very weak and therefore is manufactured to meet this criteria. We have tried tuning the standard CV carb, but have been unable to get satisfactory results compared to the Amal. The standard air filter box is very restrictive and whilst it will supply enough air for the standard CV carburettor it will not work with the Amal version so it is essential that the supplied S&B air filter is used.

STAGE 1:
The 1st part of this is the carburettor kit. It comprises of a 32mm MK1 Amal Concentric Carburettor, CNC machined alloy manifold adaptor and special fixings, cables, choke lever, S&B air filter and all necessary gaskets and fixings.

The 2nd part of the kit is the exhaust pipe. The standard exhaust pipe is designed to restrict the flow to make this a lean burn engine and this restricts any potential performance gain. Our replacement exhaust pipe has no restrictions.

The 3rd part of the kit is a plug to blank off the PAV fitting on the cylinder head, again it is essential that the PAV system is removed.

This kit increases the power at the rear wheel to 23.7bhp, an increase of nearly 40% whilst retaining the standard Indian made silencer. Significantly more performance gain than similar kits available elsewhere.

There is a further small gain to be made if the silencer is replaced as well (please check out the exhaust systems in the appropriate section of this catalogue) but this is not essential at this stage.

A benefit is also to be gained by fitting a 19t gearbox sprocket.

This is a genuine Japanese made Mikuni carburettor with all the necessary parts to fit the 500cc Bullet. It will give improved performance over the standard carburettor. Ideally suited for one of our tuned cylinder heads. The kit comprises of a Mikuni carburettor, special alloy manifold, rubber manifold, K&N air filter throttle cable and spare jets.

Amal have recently re-introduced this old style pre-monobloc carburettor which was fitted to virtually all British bikes in the 1940's and early 1950's. As well as the carburettor, throttle cable, choke cable, choke lever, S&B performance filter and all fixings are included (plus a special CNC machined alloy manifold for the 500cc). This gives a great old fashioned look and gives better cold start control with the multi-position choke. Jetted to suit.

This kit comprises of the famous Amal Monobloc carburetter as fitted to the Bullets in the 1950s and 1960s. The kit include: throttle and choke cables, choke lever, S&B performance filter and all fixings (note: the 500cc kit also includes a special CNC machined alloy manifold). This again will give improved performance over the standard carburetter and will also give you better cold start control with the multi-position choke. Jetted to suit.

This kit comprises of a 32mm Amal MK2 Concentric carburettor, special alloy manifold, S&B performance filter and manifold gasket and fittings. This will give improved performance over the standard carburettor. Ideally suited for one of our tuned cylinder heads.

Larger jets are recommended for increased power with non-standard exhausts and air filter etc.

Note: This jet will affect performance over 3/4 of the throttle opening.

We can offer the standard or a richer throttle slide for the Mikcarbs. The standard setting is fairly weak so this will help richen up the low down throttle openings especially if you have changed the silencer or air filters.

These are now made in the UK and with a better finish than the originals.

Note 2: These are also available in oversizes (/os) for use in older carburretors where the body has worn.

This is a full set of gaskets, fibre washers and rubbers for the standard Mikcarb.

Japanese manufactured to a very high standard, the boxed kits include a full set of: standard jets, screws, springs, O rings, float needle and floath chamber gasket. Highly recommended for servicing you Mikarb, the parts in these kits are a big improvement on the original items.

This is a kit to allow you to control the cold start of the original Mikcarb at the handlebar via a conventional cable and lever.
