BONANZA CLASSIC SCRAMBLE
Our 3rd scramble of the season was on the 28th June 2009 at the British Bike Bonanza near Stroud. There was a short hill climb on the Saturday evening where we had both Enfields running. The format being that the first 2 over the finishing line from each round would progress to the next round. Dave was riding well and reached the semi finals, but due to a bad start got knocked out at this round. Richard was also riding very well and in the 3rd round was second to Carl Pope, the eventual winner. For some reason unknown to the riders or crowd, only the first rider went through on this round, so Richard missed the opportunity of progressing further. However Richard did receive the loudest gasp from the crowd when he looked a little out of line of one of the jumps!
On the actual scramble on the Sunday in our first race in the pre-60 class we got noticed, but for the wrong reasons. Dave in the first corner had his front wheel dig in causing himself and the bike to flip end to end which caused the race to be red flagged. Meanwhile most of the riders were not aware of the race stoppage and continued, Richard was out in front and had an "off" under heavy braking. Unfortunately this was the end of Richards day as he broke his hand during the fall.
Dave continued to race after his accident, but due to damaged ankle, took it a bit more easy and managed a couple of 3rds in the pre 60 Class. After removing his boots at the end of the day it was apparent that he had fractured his ankle which a subsequent X-ray confirmed.
Unfortunately with the injuries, we will not be riding at the next few events, Hanbury being the most likely in September. We wish Richard and Dave a fast and full recovery.
