Norcroft 1000cc RE pictures released.

I was perusing Tarun Daniel's Facebook group, Cast Iron Connoisseurs, and came across this which seemed worth sharing here....

Of all the after-market Bullet-based vee-twins, I think the Musket has the best looking engine compared with the Norcroft or the Carberry. Has anyone considered casting up a mirror-image head and Barrel so that you could have a single-carb version?

The other issue I have with the looks of these bikes is the need to modify the Bullet frame, am I the only one thinking the results look a bit clunky? Whoever styled the pre-war K and KX side-valve models pulled it off quite nicely, the lines on these just don't seem to flow as well. I did see one picture taken in the US of a Musket engine sat (comfortably) in a replica featherbed frame, that looked a lot more elegant even if the phot was only a mock-up...

Think all these lashups will fail, they will sell a few like carberry, but who will pay for 1950s heads and barrels on a new crankcase and all the crap you have to comply with re polution regs. Cant see them going into a decent production run to get costs to a reasonable level.been quite a few of special builders over the years where are they now, all gone bust. My 2pworth.

Calling them lash-ups might be rather harsh, I understand they are actually very well engineered. The mistake may be in trying to salvage/re-work the Indian Bullet frame when something bespoke might be more appropriate, you could still re-use the forks, swinging arm and wheels, etc. I know it would add to the cost, though by the time you factor in the outlay for one of these engines you might as well get a new frame. By the way, if you cut the front down tube off a recent Indian Bullet frame to weld new down tubes on, where is the chassis no. plate supposed to go? Answers on a postcard, please...

On the bit of tube on the headstock I'd imagine?

Anyone seen the special offers tab? Seems our hosts are upgrading the website? It's on a new www address, so maybe we get a new forum with edit facility?

Sorry but I agree with the lash up theory, front mudguard not in straight, primary side footrest a few inches further out than the timing side one, cheap white plastic tie wraps, it doesn't stand close scrutiny.

Precisely! Tornado and Kevin both have quality black plastic tie wraps holding cables on.

Well that was the definitive guide then :-) Now what about the rubber ones?

Revband Subject: orcroft 1000cc RE pictures released.
From long past memory, the short leather ones are on the handlebars, the longer leather ones hold control cables to the frame and the rubber ones are for the wiring to frame, of course I may be wrong the 1950s were a long time ago. I will check and see if the parts list helps but I doubt it.

The parts list didn't help, but what you say sounds god, I will go try later and see if it all fits!

Don't know how to post pictures on here, but if you want a nice looking "new" Enfield v twin engine, take a look at the Musket being built in the USA these days. I almost signed up for one myself, then 2 x 1912 v twin bikes/projects came up..... and I got distracted. http://www.musketvtwin.com/home.html Take a look at the "process" "gallery" and "story" pages - can't say I'm in favour of the frame modification method, but the engine and it's stylised castings are to die for! From the site content, and the history of this guy's journey, you can tell he's obsessed! www.vinvetmotorcycle.simplesite.com
