I know what I think it is, but apparently it comes with paperwork to back it up and is known to the REOC. Any takers? No?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Enfield-Bullet-1963-350cc-/192230990325?

Looks rather Indian to me.

Hmmm.. but is it also 'vintage' and 'collectable'...? Looks a bit suspicious to me...

"Known to the REOC"? That is not the same as saying **endorsed** by the REOC. "Known to the police" is a common saying but hardly a recommendation! A.

I'll have a rough guess. Indian T rather than Redditch U above the gearbox, half width hubs, full finning around the breather, old style number plate mudguard, can't see the pressure relief valve, 1970,s? Wasn't the relief valve dropped in 72?

You have already pointed out the frame, which is a dead give-away, as well as the non PRV crankcases, but apart from the half-width hubs and front numberplate style front mudguards, just about every other item on that bike seems later, post 1988 forks, 90's tank with big filler cap, Mikarb carburettor, modern battery box, etc...

It is possible to start with a genuine early frame and build up a bike with all recent parts, and I did see quite a nice Indian restoration where this was the case, but the seller's story about this being a 1963 Redditch export doesn't hold water.

Just to confuse matters some Indian suppliers are now selling frames modified with the older style gearbox mounts. Have a look here, first picture on the second row.

I am no expert, but I know enough to spot what might be a ringer when I see one. Whenever I see something like this, I will try to let people know because it angers me when someone is out to catch someone else out with one of these vastly overpriced pieces of s**t. No wonder it gets harder and harder with the DVLA to get genuine old machines back on the road, when this sort of dishonesty and greed is apparently rife in our midst. Something needs to be done to stop this nonsense once and for all !!

"Item location: Tonbridge, United Kingdom "
and the pictures clearly show a location some 600 miles south of Mumbai

I was ignoring the carb and indicators etc. Adrian. Just though of another very subtle difference. The casquette pilot light casting on Redditch cast ones curve inwards, with a slightly 'cross' look,. The Indian ones slope downwards with a 'sad' look. Once you get your eye in its obvious, this ones Indian.

Hi Guys---Spot-on BEEZABRYAN..Have a look on the West coast, just South of GOA..On the E-Bay listing take a look at picture No.4 and in particular the noticeboard on its' side ??...It reads}--- "THAVAKKAL TRAVELS" Using Google we get this}--.....http://www.kooogle.com/Malappuram/Tourist%20bus%20service/Thavakkal....whereas Tonbridge is slightly further away I believe ??........Isn't this the bike that's in the middle of the Indian Army's Display Team doing the Pyramid of Death ?? ( 30-odd guys all hanging on for dear life )..hence all that conduit pipework etc. added on ..

Pity I am not in the uk, Tonbridge is my nearest town. If I hadn't already made contact with the guy, I would ask to go see it. Anybody want to ask and see what excuse they get?

addendum... it says...
"Please don't hesitate to arrange to view the bike."

I would love to arrange a viewing and if it actually is in Tonbridge, well I get to see a still pretty bullet anyway.

Well, I chatted to the guy and I think he is probably honest and has been conned.

He said that most of the pictures were taken when he got the bike in India, except for one, which I can confirm is outside the 'Kebab fish knight' which is in Marden, near Tonbridge.

Personally, I hope he keeps his bike. It would be great to get to know another bullet owner and so close too!

I sent the seller a message telling them that the bike is not as they describe it, but it's still listed, perhaps they are not as honest as you think.

We talked a lot now. he's got a flat, family needs mean he needs a commuter bike and no room to keep his bullet. He sent thanks about the info we have all given him and says it has been a bit of a shock. He does not want to sell his bullet, but has no room in the flat to keep two bikes.
