250 Crusader carb slot?

Hi all, I am now, again the proud owner of a 250 crusader sport ! I first owned one in 1978 and a right dog it was, but being my first "real" bike I've always hankered for another! Nostalger has a lot to answer for!! Anyway down to my question ; is the carb supposed to have a slot just inside the choke where it bolts on to the engine. The slot is cut into the bottom of the choke down stream fron the slide and also has a hole in the bottom of the slot straight to the outside atmosphere ! I have seen a few carbs in my time but never this feature. It's a monoblock with the right numbers for the bike stamped into the flange. The only thing I can imagine this slot/hole arraingemnt is for is to allow fuel to drain out and not go into inlet trackt with over zealous tickling !! But, it will allow air to be sucked into the intake as would a leaking cab to cylinder head joint would!! Sorry if my description isn't so good but if you've seen this slot/hole feature before in a crusader monoblock then you'll know what I'm on about. So can anyone help, should or shouldn't it be there and is if it is, what's it for ?? Ps the bike is running fine and I was " tinkering" ! Should have just left it alone, not looked and probably be non the wiser !! Ken

Hi, the carb with a slot is a correct fitting. I believe unique to Royal Enfield. Vince

Hi Vince, Thanks for that, I thought I could make out the slot on another crusader carb I saw on e-bay but couldn't be sure ! Regs Ken
